We are continuing last week’s reading selection. We are also MAP testing (this is the computer test) on Monday, and Tuesday.

Reading Selection: Wildfires by Seymour Simon
Wildfires can be destructive, but they are also part of a natural cycle, and often benefit a forest by causing renewed, fresh growth. Fires in Yellowstone and the Everglades demonstrate this cycle.

Genre: Expository Nonfiction
Purposes
  • Strategy focus: monitor/clarify
  • Comprehension skill: topic, main idea, supporting details.

Math: Students are mastering Topic 14 Integers. Integers are the whole numbers and their opposites (negative numbers) where zero is its own  opposite.

Word Work: Some words have sounds with unusual spellings, and the spelling of these words have to be memorized. Most of the words this week fall into this category.
Spelling Words: health, blood, type, against, receive, flood , month, magazine, guess, women, guide, style, wealth, guilt, says, guard, wonder, guest, gasoline, neither.

Test will be Thursday, May 24th

Grammar:  Students are learning the rules for comparing with adverbs. Add –er to adverbs to compare two actions. Add –est to compare three or more actions. Students need to keep in mind that one never uses –er with more, and –est with most.
