Homework for Monday: Work on your Biography Homework :)    There is no spelling homework, but it would be a good idea to write them daily just for practice.
Reading: We are starting the trade book Night of the Twisters. It is based on a true story of seven tornadoes that went through a Nebraska town on night in 1980. It is realistic fiction.

Biography Homework
Phase One-Due Friday, March 25: Select a biography about someone you feel is a hero. Read it carefully, and then write a three paragraph paper on it. The first paragraph will have the title, author, and a brief summary of the hero’s life or deeds in your own words. The second and third paragraphs need to explain why you feel this person is a hero. You must list at least two examples of why he/she is a hero and justify it with quotes from the book (one per paragraph).

We consider someone a hero who has one or more of traits like:
  • the courage not to give into injustice
  • earns people’s respect
  • fearless in the face of danger
  • determined and works hard to get what they want
  • cares about and helps other people, including his/her family
  • optimistic
  • demonstrates perseverance

Writing will be scored in the following areas:
  • Demonstrates appropriate content and organization
  • Written in own words
  • Proper mechanics and spelling
  • Neatly done
