Week of August 29


Math: We are learning about place value, writing numbers up to nine digits (millions), and then comparing them using the greater than > or less than < symbols. Math Vocabulary this week includes standard form, period, expanded form, and word form.

Reading: Our first reading theme is titled Journeys. Story selections involve travelers who learn about the world, and about themselves. Through these stories we are examining:
·  Story Structure
·  Author’s Viewpoint
·  Text Organization
·  Noting Details

Word Work: This time in our day goes beyond just learning spelling words. We are also learning:
·  Base Words and Endings -er and -est
·  Suffixes -ly and -y
·  Syllabication
·  Word Roots tele and rupt
·  Homophones

Spelling Words: We are reviewing the short a & e, and  long a &e sounds and spellings. Words will be coming home on Monday.  The spelling test will be on Tuesday, September 6.
