Week 27 March 12-16

Reading Selection: Gloria Estefan  - The Cuban-born singer helped care for her ailing father and finished college before joining Emilio Estefan’s band. Theirs was the first band with hits on both the Latin and pop charts. After recovering from a serious accident, Gloria used her continued success for charitable causes.

Genre: Biography – A true story of the life of a real person
Purposes

Math: We are starting Topic 11 Fractions and Decimal Concepts. Students will learn about decimal place value, comparing and ordering decimals, and how they are fractions.

Word Work: This week we will focus on changing final y to i,  the two sounds of g, and homophones. Homophones are words that sound the same, but have different spellings and meanings.

Spelling Words: sunnier, cloudier, windier, cities, heaviest, prettiest, studied, easier, noisier, families, ferries, crazier, funnier, earlier, copied, hobbies, angriest, emptied, worried, happiest

Test will be Tuesday, March 20.

Grammar:  We are examining the object pronouns me, you, him, her, it, us, and them. Object pronouns are used after action verbs, and words such as to, with, for, and at. Students need to remember that when speaking of another person and youself, you always name yourself last.
