Week 26 March 5-9

Each day this week is a minimum day to allow time for parent conferences. Dismissal is at 1:20.

We will be going to JPS on Tuesday for the PTA book fair.

Reading Selection: Happy Birthday, Dr. King! When Jamal’s grandfather hears that the boy is in trouble for fighting to sit in the back of the bus, he tells Jamal about Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr., and the civil rights movement. Jamal responds with an idea for a skit for his school’s King Day assembly.

Genre: Realistic Fiction
Purposes
  • Strategy focus: predict/infer
  • Comprehension skill: cause and effect

Math: We will be wrapping up Topic 9 Fraction Meanings and Concepts. We will be focusing comparing and ordering factions. Students have discovered that they need to have a good grasp of multiplication, division, and factors to be more successful at fractions.

Word Work: Prefixes and Suffixes and meaning to words. This week students will learn some common prefix and suffix meanings.
