Week of October 24

Students, show your spirit on Friday. Wear orange and black.

Math: Keep on practicing those basic facts! Students are getting correct answers faster. We have been working hard with mental math and breaking numbers apart. An example would be 45 +38. Break apart the tens ands ones and you are left with 40+30, and 5+8. Add together and its 70+13 which equals 83. This type of mental math really strengthens place value concepts, and helps a child understand what he/she is doing when it comes to paper pencil tasks. It is impressive how the class is getting much faster and accurate doing these tasks.
We are still on Topic 4 which will have the students multiplying three digits by one digit by the end of the week. Knowing the multiplication facts quickly and accurately is vital!
