Week 23 February 13-17

Monday, February 13, is a holiday. The school is closed.
Our Valentines party is Tuesday, Feb. 14. A list was sent home Friday, February 03 listing items we would like for our party. Parents are needed for set-up and clean-up that day. The party will be from 1:45-2:40
Reading Selection: We are continuing The Last Dragon by Susan Miho Nunes. The main character Peter is unhappy to spend a summer in Chinatown with Great Aunt-until he finds and decides to fix up a New Year’s dragon. Enlisting the aid of neighbors and shopkeepers, Peter makes many friends and brings the tattered dragon back to its former glory.

Purposes
  • Strategy focus: summarize
  • Comprehension skill: drawing conclusions

Math: We taking the Topic triangles, quadrilaterals, circles, and three-dimensional shapes. Our next unit of study is exploring fractions and fractional sets. Please continue basic facts practice.

Word Work: Our focus is on words that end with the /j/ and /s/ sounds. These are words that end with the –dge, -ge, -age, and –ce.
Spelling Words: village, cottage, bridge, fence, strange, chance, twice, cage, change, carriage, glance, ridge, manage, damage, since, marriage, edge, lodge, cabbage, dodge

Test will be on Friday, February 17.

Grammar:  We will learn about two kinds of adjectives and the articles used with singular and plural nouns. An adjective is a word that describes a noun. The words a, an, and the are special adjectives called articles.
Writing: Students will be note-taking, preparing to write about explorers that visited California.
