Week 31 April 23-27


Reading Selection: Salmon Summer  
Alex, a modern Aleut boy, spends the summer fishing much as his ancestors did and enjoying the bounty of the Kodiak Island Wilderness.

Genre: Nonfiction
Purposes
  • Strategy focus: summarize
  • Comprehension skill: following directions

Math: Students are completing Topic 13 Solving Equations, and beginning Topic 14 which is all about integers.

Word Work: This week’s objectives are for students to be able to read three-syllable words, and read words and syllables with r-controlled vowels.

Spelling Words: deliver, favorite, camera, yesterday, tomorrow, important, together, victory, remember, library, enemy, animal, another, however, banana, alphabet, hospital, hamburger, carpenter, several.
Challenge Words: interview, article, halibut, edition, photograph

Test will be Friday, April 27

Grammar:  This week students will explore adverbs, and using adverbs to expand sentences. Adverbs are words that modify (describe) verbs or adjectives.

Writing: Students are writing narratives, incorporating similes (comparisons using like or as), dialogue, and sensory details. Students are using the laptops to write their drafts and final copies.
